Community rules
Megun Community is a village square, not a broadcast channel. These rules exist so that raising a real problem here is safer and more useful than shouting about it somewhere else. They are short on purpose.
What this platform is for
- Raising issues that affect the ward — water, roads, security, schools, health — so they can be seen, tracked and answered.
- Announcements from people and institutions who are accountable for them.
- Buying and selling locally, honestly.
- Events, groups and the ordinary business of neighbours knowing each other.
How we expect you to behave
- Use your real name. This is a place where neighbours answer to each other.
- Argue with the position, not the person.
- Post what you know, and say when you are not sure. An unverified rumour, repeated confidently, does real damage in a small community.
- Respect people's privacy: do not post someone's phone number, home details, ID or photograph of them without their agreement.
What is not allowed
- Threats, incitement, or calls for violence against anyone or any group.
- Hate or contempt directed at people for their ethnicity, clan, religion, gender, disability or where they come from.
- Harassment, stalking, or campaigns against an individual.
- Sexual content, and absolutely any sexual content involving children — this is reported to the authorities, not merely removed.
- Impersonating another person, an official, an institution or this platform.
- Knowingly false claims about a person, a business or an institution.
- Scams, fraudulent listings, pyramid schemes, and selling anything you may not lawfully sell.
- Spam, repetitive posting, and using the platform to farm attention for something unrelated to this ward.
Verified marks mean something
A verified mark on an announcement or an institution means the community body has confirmed that source. It is never decorative and it is never given to a claim because it sounds official. If you see a verified mark on something that looks wrong, report it — that is a more serious problem than an ordinary bad post.
Posting is immediate — and reviewable
What you post appears straight away. Nobody approves it first, because a queue between a resident and a burst water pipe helps nobody.
The balance for that is real accountability afterwards: the community team can take content down, every takedown is recorded with who did it and when, and the author is told. You can also remove your own posts and your own photographs at any time.
Reporting something
Every post has a report action. Use it — it reaches the moderators with the context attached, which an email cannot.
For urgent safety matters, or anything involving a child, write to abuse@megun.community as well.
In an emergency, contact the Kenyan emergency services on 999 or 112, or your area chief. This platform is not an emergency service and nobody watches it around the clock.
What happens when a rule is broken
- First, usually: the content comes down and you are told why.
- Repeatedly, or for anything serious: your ability to post is suspended.
- For threats, fraud or anything involving a child: the account is closed and the matter is referred to the authorities.
If you think we got it wrong
Reply to the notice you were sent, or write to support@megun.community. A person will look at it again. Moderators are neighbours, not machines, and they make mistakes like anyone else.
